Mac Advocate: Rebecca Lyn Eisenberg
Ovaries on the Chopping Block

If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing Rebecca Lynn Eisenberg in action, you are really missing a treat. Rebecca is an inspiration. As her bio puts it, Rebecca is a Writer, Business and Internet Consultant, Speaker, Commentator, Editor, Critic, and Attorney. She has a J.D. from Harvard Law School, B.A. in Psychology/Decision Sciences from Stanford University, she is a regular commentator on CBS MarketWatch, ZDTV's Silicon Spin (hosted by John Dvorak), the San Francisco Examiner, and in her spare time, she knits sweaters for the Salvation Army. Yet these credible qualifications are grossly dwarfed by the fact that she is a vehement Mac advocate...or shall we say, "smarter computing" advocate.

With a raspy voice that's often throatier than Demi Moore's (especially when she's trying to make a point), Rebecca has long taken the road less travelled and is not a lukewarm defender of the MacOS. On Ziff-Davis' Silicon Spin, Rebecca is frequently outnumbered by a Windows-friendly panel of pundits awash in silicon indifference. Yet, she aggressively and poignantly counters irrational computing technology thought (usually Sheldon) and does not shrink in a confrontation. This is not to say that she comes across in a Morton Downey sort of way...on the contrary, people seem to like her (plus, she is much, MUCH easier on the eyes).

Repeatedly, I have seen her put her "ovaries on the chopping block" so to speak, and defend the MacOS when there was not a single Mac-friendly face on the panel...including Dvorak. Her pro-Mac assertions were often met with scoffs, chuckles, and chortles when she alone defended consumer choice, innovation, and smarter thinking with a damn the Borg vengeance. These days it's more "chic" to be Mac. Those days, however, when Mac was definitely not "chic"... you know, those dark, dreary, days of yestermonth...it was Rebecca in the trenches duking it out with the big boys, adding scrumptious media cinnamon long before the Jobsonian Apple pie we are all enjoying today...and she continues to do so. This is not to diminish what many of us do within our own sphere of influence to promote smarter computing, it's just that Rebecca, through personal merit, has garnered a sphere of influence few of us will ever have. Me, you, and consumers everywhere are lucky to have her in our corner.

For a small taste of Rebecca's spirited moxie, begin with her four-part debate with CBS MarketWatch columnist "Zapman" (anonymous). The debate is not well organized on the website, so you may wish to follow these links: Part-One. Part-Two. Part-Three. Part-Four.

Also, if you have Real Video, you can watch a streaming broadcast of Silicon Spin where Rebecca is a panel regular.

Several links compliments of "Sherlock".
