These books are more the science fiction, speculation, only vaguely related or futurist books. They often have great broad concepts and possibilities - even if they are not "pure" Human Factors books.
  • Why Things Bite Back by Edward Tenner - interesting observations on accidental consequences of technology. Something UI and Systems designers should read just to get them in the right frame of mind.
  • Bringing Design to Software - a compendium of many articles on the subject of software design (on many levels).
  • Groupware in the 21st Century - interesting observations on how information is going to effect our society.
  • Out of Control by Kevin Kelly - a very casually written look at various topics about the future (including better information environments).
  • War In The Age of Intelligent Machines by Manuel De Landa - a look into the "shift in the relation of human beings both to machines and to information". Written from the perspective of a future robot historian looking back.
  • Understanding Media by Marshall McLuhan - a futurists pretty accurate ramblings, written decades ago. Interesting reflections on the information age and computers.
