Apple Easter Eggs
eWorld

eWorld

eWorld Code Name: Aladdin

After Apple helped get AOL and Genie started, Apple finally decided to create their own OnLine service -- and started eWorld. Great idea -- about 5 years too late. Just as they started getting it working and all the spit and polish done, the Internet started really taking off -- and someone correctly figured out that the world didn't need another proprietary communications service. eWorld was killed.

  1. In eWorld's Town Square window, click in the extreme upper-left hand corner

The background changed to a night scene. (Normal on the left -- modified on the right)

This worked for version 1.1 and possibly other versions.

Sadly though, after April 1st this easter egg was put to rest with eWorld's end.

I guess it would be too much to ask for a moment of silence. Oh well...

Actually, I was pretty active on eWorld -- and made a lot of friends that I have to this day. Some said that eWorld stood for "empty" world -- but it was still small enough (a 150,000 users) that your message wasn't completely drowned out with 1,000 replies like on AOL. So I liked it. I really wish Apple would have created a virtual version on the Internet to do the same thing -- they could have had an awesome portal.
