Support MacKiDo
Obligatory Groveling

No site would be complete without a little obligatory groveling (or advertising).

This site doesn't make me any money -- and in fact it costs me quite a bit (about $50-80/month not counting time). But I found a neat way that people can help support MacKiDo, without anything coming out of their pocket.

How it works

I personally buy quite a few books from Amazon.com. I find it far more convenient than trudging down to the local book store, only to find that they don't have what I want, and I have to order it anyway. So I am recommending you try it -- whether you want to help me out or not.

Amazon.com has a program where they will give me (an Associate) a small percentage (it varies) kickback for any products that you buy from them. This doesn't increase the price to you. All that you have to do, is tweak the URL a little bit. (Amazon.com sells more than just books, including some DVD's and Software -- the procedure is the same).

Here is how it works --

  1. Find the book you want, using their search (I used "The Media Monopoly" by Ben H. Bagdikian), and go to that page -- for my example it came up with the following URL --

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0807061573/111-7676327-8389641

  2. Replace the text from the last slash on (after the ISBN# -- I highlighted it in red) with /mackidoA/ so the URL would look like --

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0807061573/mackidoA/

    and press the return key.

  3. That is it. Add that book to your Shopping Cart (right there), and buy it.

For each book you purchase using that method, Amazon.com gives me a kickback -- as long as it has that /mackidoA/ in the URL. There is no cost to you. I get a little something to cover my hosting costs -- and all for doing something that I would recommend you do anyway -- buy books on-line!

Thanks to everyone who spends the little extra time to support MacKiDo.

Special thanks to Glenmore Investments for their support.

Security Concerns with the Internet -- personally I have no fear about buying things over the Internet. It is far easier for people to rip you off by dumpster diving for carbon copies of receipts, robbing mailboxes, or getting your credit card number by looking over your shoulder when you buy something, than it is to get the number from using an UNSECURED purchase on the Internet. With the secured transactions (which most people use) it is far far safer than a store purchase.
